About

Love and Unicorns is a pop culture/entertainment Web site written by me, Sheena Barnett.

From June 2007 to March 2009, it was Scene Now, my entertainment blog for the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal. That blog has since been moved to a new location at the Journal’s Web site, NEMS360.com.

All of Scene Now’s old content will stay here, while some of my reviews and columns that have run in the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal will be posted here as well. Any content that originally ran in the Daily Journal will be credited.

All new content is property of, well, me. Please give credit to this site if you borrow anything. Your mama’s watching you.

A little more FYI:

I’m 27.
I’m an entertainment/pop culture writer.
I’m a fan of Joss Whedon, Bette Davis, The Beatles, vinyl, zombies, glitter, comic books and, of course, love and unicorns.

You can reach me at sheenabarnett@comcast.net.

Great blog, Sheena. I love the Scene and count on it for all my local entertainment news.

I’d just like to let all the blues lovers in the NE Mississippi area know that I manage the Chris Thomas King fansite, http://www.myspace.com/christhomaskingfansite . Chris is the Baton Rouge blues artist and actor who played Delta bluesman Tommy Johnson in O Brother, Where Art Thou? and Lowell Fulson in Ray. The site features CTK’s music, photos, tour dates, news and more.

Thanks for all the terrific work you do keeping us informed.

    Happy holidays!

    Greetings friends and neighbors –
Just wanted to throw in my two cents as a recent “come-back”. I left NE Miss in the late 70’s and haven’t been back many times since, until now, moving back to Amory, where I grew up.
I just want to encourage everyone, all ages and tastes, to support your local musicians and entertainment venues. Sure, we all have busy lives, families, and full schedules, but everyone out there putting everything they have into providing us with music, art, and theater deserves a bit of our time. Whether it is supporting your kids in their high school band (the Tupelo Marching Festival this weekend) or seeking out that blues musician you have always wanted to hear who just happens to be performing close by in the near future, to the TCT and their great efforts. There really is always something going on, and the more we support it all, the more there will be…. talk about your win-wins.
OK, enough of my soapboxing. It’s great to be back in NE Miss, and I hope we all see each other out there soon.

If you’re referring to “Conquering the Fear of Flight,” I thought that came out in ’07?

Hello Sheena. I am trying to get in contact with Sky Shelton regarding a performance in September. I heard him sing a few months back and instantly became a fan. If you could please forward my information to him or send me any contact information you have I would be very grateful.

    Thanks so much!

    Hey,
I saw that you reviewed our friend Victum’s album a while back, and I was wondering if you’d do the same for us? If you are interested, please email me at the email above. Thank you.
