Life with Lucy: All Hopped Up on Trash

30 Nov

Lucy has a confession to share. She’s has a deep-seated addiction to trash. She recently ran across the trashcan jackpot.

I was in a baking mood, so I decided to make double chocolate brownies. I gathered the ingredients, which included multiple squares of baker’s chocolate, chocolate chips and instant coffee grounds. For any chocolate lover, these brownies are the perfect fix.

Since the recipe makes a ton of brownies, I decided to share them with my co-workers. I wrapped up several of them in plastic wrap for easy transportation. The brownies were a hit and only a few were left over. I ended up throwing out a couple of brownies because somehow they ended up squished and crumbled.

On this particular day I forgot to put the trash out of Lucy’s reach before leaving to run a few errands. The trashcan was nearly empty. I couldn’t think of anything in it to seduce her into a rumble in the plastic.  I must have been thinking that surely Lucy could control herself for an hour or so while I grabbed dinner with a friend.

• Hey, Luke Foley of Farewell Flight, what’s on your iPod?
“For me personally, I think I get kinda music’d out. I don’t like to listen to a lot of music when I’m writing…I really like some singer-songwriter stuff…My favorite album is ‘August and Everything After’ by the Counting Crows. It’s an amazing record…I like listening to Plu, it’s a band that has broken up now from Arkansas. They put out a record that was phenomenal. There’s a band called Lorien from Nashville, they are phenomenal.”

TUPELO – Farewell Flight is your favorite band – you just don’t know it yet.

The band, made up of Luke Foley, Robbe Reddinger, Timmy Moslener and Marc Prokopchak, has been winning over fans across the country through endless touring. Farewell Flight has been through Tupelo already and racked up a decent-sized fanbase, and the band returns this weekend. It seems like everywhere the guys go, they pick up new fans – but it hasn’t always been easy. Farewell Flight has soldiered through label shake-ups and touring struggles, but its music has always surpassed any troubles. In fact, that’s what’s fueling a new album.

“I want the next record to be full of hope,” Foley said in an interview with Scene Now. “Maybe the next record won’t be a hopeful record, but (about) the hope of hope.”

TUPELO – Thanksgiving is a time to catch up with family and friends, and Braden Land is coming back to Northeast Mississippi to do just that.

Before leaving for Nashville, Land had released his debut CD, “Dirt,” and toured regionally. Now, on his homecoming trip back to Tupelo, he has his second CD under his belt, and he’s toured across the country. Things are looking up as he continues to promote his new CD, “Stumble and Glow,” across the country.

“I started hearing back from the first album, from ‘Dirt.’ I heard from a couple of labels about doing another (CD) and touring,” Land said. “My manager booked me from coast to coast, and introduced me to (producers) in Nashville. And then I got married in April. So there’s been a lot going on.”

Life with Lucy: Meet Lucy

24 Nov

Editor’s Note: Life with Lucy is a new pet column here on Scene Now, written by Journalite Laura Sandiford. It will run every Sunday, but we’re kicking off the first edition today. Share your stories about your pets!

If you haven’t met Lucy, now is the time.

Everyone loves her. Anyone who meets her instantly loves her. She’s the got the most adorable face that will melt your heart – or so I’m told.

Lucy is my 2-year old Beagle-rador (Beagle/Labrador mix), who was adopted during a chance happening visit to the local Co-op.

When I met my Lucy, I was not on a puppy mission. I had thought about getting a dog, but I had not yet met the right canine.   Finally, on a cold January day, I saw her. It was puppy love at first sight. It was the cutest little chocolate brown puppy curled up in a large crate with her brothers and sisters. Lucy was the shy one of the bunch. While her siblings begged for attention, she stayed curled up only peering out at the gawking crowd with her golden eyes.

I am not sure why I was drawn to her, but at that moment, I knew I needed to take her home with me. It required semi-crawling into the giant kennel around the over eager pups to scoop her up, but once I was holding her, she immediately snuggled herself in under my warm coat.  Maybe she knew we were meant to be, or maybe she was just cold.

It was only after a few timid days that I finally met the REAL LUCY.

The REAL LUCY is anything but timid and shy. She is a shoe annihilator, trash connoisseur, toilet paper unroller, candy thief, bed hog and treat glutton that I love unconditionally.
She may not be perfectly balanced or in a calm state, and from time to time thinks she is my master, but Lucy and I are a team. She keeps life interesting and is constantly providing me with a funny story to share.

Because Life with Lucy is never boring, her Fan Club decided it would be an injustice to man-kind to withhold our daily adventures from the world. For your reading pleasure I present you with…..
