Show & Tell: Cut Off Your Hands

5 Feb

Show & Tell is a new feature on Scene Now.

Talk about what pop culture you’re in love with right now, whether it’s a book, a band, a TV show or a commercial. Share the love!

Cut Off Your Hands

You have to love a band with a screwy name.

It was Cut Off Your Hands’ name that drew me in. It was different, but it worked, probably even though it shouldn’t.

What surprised me was the quality of music. Cut Off Your Hands’ music is a mix of shiny pop and dirty punk, and the two mix beautifully in this band. Every song is energetic and catchy.

I bought the band’s EP, “Shaky Hands,” months ago and literally not a day has gone by that I haven’t listened to at least one song from it. Tracks like “You & I” and “Tell Me About” are classic.

The New Zealand-based band just released its debut album, “You & I.” Most reviews have said the band is great but can’t carry an entire album – and I think that’s pretty fair. But, the bad moments are actually still pretty good, and when the band is good, it’s brilliant.

I’ve been watching Across the Universe a lot this week. They have a creative take on several Beatles’ songs and really put them in a different perspective (For me, at least). And the choreography is amazing. For anyone who even LIKES the Beatles, this is a must see..
