PONTOTOC – Your scariest nightmares from childhood are coming to life this weekend in Hurricane.

The Hurricane Haunted House and Haunted Forest are back for a third year, with a new theme, new gags and new scares.

“We have a central theme for both of them – last year’s was an insane asylum,” said Barney Harris, who works with the Haunted House and Haunted Forest. “This year it’s a Child’s Nightmare. It’s very cartoonish, with lots of special effects.”

Harris, whose band, Legends of the Blues, will also perform Saturday nights at the House and Forest, said the attractions are family-friendly.

“We don’t do gore,” he said. “Five-year-olds can go through it.”

It’s safe enough that churches have brought their youth groups to it, he said.

This is the third year for the Haunted House and Haunted Forest in Hurricane, and Harris said it’s grown every year. Besides the haunted fun, concessions will also be available.

“It’s a work of art,” Harris said. “The house has a vibe to it all its own. To me, it’s like living theater.”
