Live from Rick’s, Sept. 08

9 Sep

BY RICK WELCH

September is usually the busiest month for Rick’s and other live music venues for big acts, a lot of artists don’t tour as much during the summer but then hit the road hard in the fall.  Here’s some great stuff coming up in our area:

Rick’s Cafe – Starkville, MS
September
9 – Eric Church
10 – Perpetual Groove
15 – Seether
25 – Sister Hazel

October
1 – Noush Skaugen
10 – Corey Smith
16 – Benjy Davis Project
23 – Luke Bryan

September 12th is MSU’s Bulldog Bash in the Cotton District featuring Gavin DeGraw.
Other acts on the bill include Matt Wertz, Jonathan Singleton & The Grove, Whild Peach, Nash Street, Exodus (reggae), and Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit.  What a great lineup for this year’s Bash!

My friend right down the road, Dave, at Dave’s Darkhorse Tavern always has a great music lineup, some of the notable artists coming to The Tavern are Cool Papa Bell on Sept. 12, Hightide Blues on Sept. 13, and Col. Bruce Hampton on Oct. 17.

My friends at The Lyric in Oxford are going to have a busy few months as well with The Kudzu Kings on Sept. 12, Cross Canadian Ragweed on Sept. 17, Lord T & Eloise on Sept. 18, Drive By Truckers on Oct. 1, Rebirth Brass Band on Oct. 3, and the STS9 is coming in November.

If a road-trip is more your style, The Jupiter in Tuscaloosa, AL has The Ugli Stick on Sept. 11, The Velcro Pygmies on Sept. 12, Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit on Sept.18, Pat Green & Whiskey Falls on Sept. 19, and The Avett Brothers on Sept. 25.

So you see, there is a lot of great music coming through our area in the next few months.  Of course, I’ve just listed highlights. Please get online for these venue’s entire lineups.  Go support live music!
