What’s Going On – ‘Idol,’ ‘Dancing,’ Superman

25 Aug

Merry Monday, loves!

What did you do this weekend?

As any good Pontotoc native, my weekend was spent at the Bodock Festival.

I went to the Karen Pittman/David Weaver concert Thursday night, which was so good. It was great to see such a large turn-out, too!

I tried out the new antiques store in Pontotoc, Antiques Downtown, and was surprised to find their varied record selection. There were a lot of compilations – think “Music for Dining” and the like – but then a lot of pop music. I bought a majority of 80s pop on vinyl: “Thriller” by Michael Jackson, “Control” by Janet Jackson, “Falco 3” by Falco (yes, it includes that 8-minute version of “Rock Me Amadeus”), Whitney Houston’s first two albums and Madonna’s first three. I also got the “Miami Vice” soundtrack. My mom LOVED that show, and I remember the two of us listening to that soundtrack almost non-stop. Good times, indeed.

  • A darker “Superman” film is in the works, following the success of the bleaker “Batman” series.

And, in case this helps anyone – try JusttheDisc.com if you’ve lost a disc of your favorite TV show or want a CD without the case.

A “darker” Superman film is the worst idea ever.
Routh played a decent man of steel and I wouldn’t mind him reprising the role. The biggest problem with Superman Returns was making it a sequel to the second Christopher Reeve movie…and that whole having a kid thing.
Batman is meant to be dark, that’s his lot…what makes him Batman. Superman, on the other hand, is a paragon of virtue. A hero that overshadows all others. He is truth, justice, and the American way. There’s no brooding or darkness in that.

Yeah, I’m not sure I’m keen on the idea, either. Seems like they’re just ripping off “Batman,” and anytime anybody rips off anything else, it’s usually not that great. Not always, but usually.
