What’s Going On – ‘Watchmen,’ Wilco, new music

19 Aug

Happy Tuesday dears!

Last night I went on a music binge…bought a TON of music. And I just found out I’ve got to go back and buy even more, since Family Force 5 released its new album, “Dance or Die,” today. Woo-hoo!

Til then, I’m listening to the new album by Darker My Love. Go to their MySpace and take a listen to “Two Ways Out.” If I hadn’t already given my heart to “Over” by Farewell Flight, then “Two Ways Out” would be my song of 08.

  • Speaking of Wilco, the band should have a new album out in spring 09.
  • You’ll have to wait a while to get Lily Allen’s next CD.

Any suggestions along the lines of DKM, Flogging Molly or the Pogues?

And check out the Dubliners and the Pogues singing Irish over. You can find it on youtube. The Dubliners rock!

    hey farley,

actually, i went for more ambient/folk/indie rock type stuff..which really surprised me. i’m such a loud, rowdy rock/punk/country fan that i was surprised i went for that.

i got the fleet foxes (myspace.com/fleetfoxes), which is very folky, beach boys-ish sound.

i got the postmarks (myspace.com/thepostmarks), which is very very laid-back, ambient indie rock.

and then of course darker my love.

if it’s punk you’re looking for, try jay reatard. i’ll admit, i haven’t listened to much of his stuff, but once i get paid again i’m going to buy “blood visions.” he’s based out of memphis, too.

it would be sooooo helpful if i’d include jay reatard’s myspace page, wouldn’t it?

    sorry 🙂

I will be very hacked off if the Watchmen movie gets delayed. From the trailer andthe couple of spoilers I’ve found, it looks to be great. I just read something this morning where the Movie clocks in at around three hours, but the DVD version will be even longer (kind of like the fabled version of Dune that was supposed to be 6 hours long).

If you have not read the graphic novel, you really should. You can check it out at the Lee County Library. They have about three copies.

hey mickey — i haven’t read the novel yet, but i really, really want to. i got back into comics once dark horse started publishing the “buffy” series, so now i’m into all of them — ok, mostly the “buffy”/”angel” ones and then joe hill’s “locke & key” series.

wow. a three hour version…sounds amazing!!

You definitely need to read it. Either buy it outright or check it out from the Library. Its one of those that even someone who doesn’t like comics will enjoy, so if you do like them, you’ll get even more out of it.

I fell out of comics a while ago, but Watchmen will always hold a special place. 300 as well.

i’ll go by and get it. it sounds interesting, and i think it’s been called the best superhero story ever told?

ohh, 300. i’d much rather read the novel than see the movie. i tried watching the movie, but i got so sick of hearing the word “sparta” after the first 20 minutes that i cut it off. 🙂

Mickey is dead on about the Watchmen. When the movie comes out, you will get an entirely different experience having read it than those who haven’t. It’s extremely complex (but not confusing) and I always felt that it would be unfilmable, at least in keeping with the myriad of situations going on.
Alan Moore is phenomenal and , in my opinion, his Watchmen is probably the best comic maxi-series (it was originally released in 12 issues) ever produced. Buy it, read it, and if you don’t find it brilliant, I will personally buy the copy from you.

awesome…i MUST buy it now! it’s topping my “to-buy” list when i get paid again….woo-hoo!

I have high hopes for the movie, and I hope it does the graphic novel justice. I think they could have done a 10-part series with it on HBO and really rocked it though.
