In the Arena, 8/1

Thanks for the comments on last week’s blog. Here are a couple of answers:

We will be hosting a fair on the grounds October 3-11. Here’s the promoter’s Web site. More information will be posted on our website as it becomes available.

The “Dream Team of Comedy” event featuring Sommore and Don “DC” Curry on August 8 is still happening. Pollstar.com compiles their own calendar and doesn’t always catch every event that we host. See this week’s Scene for an excellent interview with the comics (thanks Sheena!).

I’m still recovering from a trip to California earlier this week. Thank goodness my plane took off about an hour before the earthquake hit! I’ve experienced hurricanes and tornadoes but never an earthquake, and I would like to keep it that way. The 80-degree days were nice, though…

The purpose of my trip was to attend the annual conference of the International Association of Assembly Managers. This was a meeting of arena, convention center, performing arts center, and stadium personnel from across the world. We gathered to discuss trends in the industry, view new product lines of industry-related equipment, and to network. I returned with a stack of brochures, catalogs, business cards, and a long list of ideas to share with our staff. Hopefully we will be able to use some of these ideas to improve our operations here in the Arena.

Until next time,

Todd

Cant wait to see Mississippi State Bulldog hockey at the BCS ARENA. Thanks for bringing hockey back to North Mississippi.

I understand that Miley Cyrus is probably a little to big for the arena right now. But what about someone like The Cheetah Girls. My daughter likes them. I see on t.v. where Alabama Adventure water park is having those shows a lot this summer.
