In the Arena, 6/13

15 Jun

This week has been relatively quiet at the Arena. Rascal Flatts has left the building, the Mudcats are on the road, and the circus doesn’t arrive until next week. The down time has allowed us to work on a few things around the building as well as given us a chance to look at where our numbers are for the year. Here are a few high points:

  • Attendance for the year can be summed up in one word: up! For the fiscal year (October 1) to date we have had more than 188,000 visitors. To put those numbers into perspective, we have only eclipsed this total in five of our 15 years. Next week’s circus crowds will push those attendance numbers over 200,000, the first time we have broken that barrier since 1998-99. Thanks for your support!
  • We are in the process of replacing the faucets in our public restrooms with touchless models. When you have 40 faucets, this process can be both expensive and time-consuming. Our short-term goal is to update the two large restrooms on the south end of the arena. Hopefully we will be able to replace every faucet by the end of the year.
  • Our operations staff is also updating the meeting room lobby area. We are replacing ceiling tile and repainting the walls. Look for this project to be completed by the end of the summer.
  • Concert activity is slow for the summer months, but that is typical of our industry. We are still working out the details for a couple of late summer/early fall shows and hope to be able to announce them soon. In the meantime, I encourage you to visit our website ( and sign up for our e-blast mailing list.

That’s the news for now. Have a great weekend. My goal for next week is to get one of the circus performers to blog with me. Ever had a conversation with an elephant?

Until next time,

Thanks Alan. We should have another show to announce later this week. As long as tickets are selling well , we’ll keep bringing the shows to town!

OK, Todd — can we get any clues as to what show you’ll announce later this week? Rock? Pop? Country? R&B? Polka? (kidding on the last one) 🙂

How’d you guess the Big Joe Polka Show was coming to town? We thought Tupelo was in need of a beer/brat/polka party. Don’t you agree?
