In the Arena, 5/23

23 May

BY TODD HUNT

If I knew how to add audio to this blog, you would be listening to the sounds of “Pomp & Circumstance” right now. We’re preparing to host the graduation ceremonies of Mooreville, Saltillo, Shannon, and Tupelo this weekend. Congratulations to all of the graduates and their families.

Next week we will host the Mudcats’ final regular season game of 2008. Last weekend saw them lose their first game of the season and marked the first time in two years that they lost a home game. Hopefully that will be the last game they lose this year…

Summer is normally a slow time for the arena, but this year looks like it could be an exception. Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus will be in the arena June 19-22 and is already on sale. There’s a chance that we will host a comedy show the last weekend in June. If the Mudcats continue their winning ways, a home playoff game is a realistic possibility for July. Add to that mix three other concerts that we are considering for July & August (sorry Sheena, but Janet Jackson isn’t one of them!) and the next few months will be anything but slow.

Many of you may have noticed the piece in the Daily Journal regarding a new part-time position we have created at the arena. We are looking for someone who can oversee our food and beverage concessions for all arena events. The hours will be determined by our event schedule and will vary dramatically from week to week. If this sounds like something you (or someone you know) might be interested in, please stop by the Human Resources Department at City Hall and fill out an application.

That’s the news for now. Have a great week.

Until next time,

Todd
