Summer Movies at The Orpheum

20 May

The Orpheum in Memphis has announced the films for its Summer Movie Series.

The Orpheum is turning 80 this year, so they’re really going all-out for this year’s films.

Here are the classic films they’re showing:

June 7 – “Titanic”
June 13 – “E.T.”
June 27 – “Gladiator”
July 11 – “Lawrence of Arabia”
July 18 – “The Sound of Music”
Aug. 1 – “Gone with the Wind”
Aug. 8 – “Ben Hur”
Aug. 15 – “Wizard of Oz”
Aug. 22 – “Dr. Zhivago”
Sept. 5 – “Casablanca”

And here are the “Chick Flicks” they’re showing…
June 12 – “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”
July 3 – “The First Wives Club”
July 10 – “Pretty Woman”
July 17 – “Steel Magnolias”
July 24 – “To Catch a Thief”
July 31 – “Sleepless in Seattle”
Aug. 7 – “Terms of Endearment”

Movies start at 7:15 p.m.
Prices are $5/adults and $4/12 and under.

Last year I went to see “Casablanca” there, and it was one of the best movie-going experiences I’ve ever had. It was like seeing the movie for the first time.
Lots of folks dressed up like Rick or Ilsa, and they had a trivia contest before the movie started and gave away prizes.

Seeing classic films in a gorgeous old theater for $5? I’m so there…who’s with me for “Gone with the Wind”?
