“American Idol,” Feb. 5

5 Feb

So I only missed the first segment of “Idol” tonight…so we’ve got a mostly full recap here! Wheee!

“AI” was in Atlanta tonight.

The first going through Asia’h Epperson, who did a fabulous job of  “How Do I Live.” It was especially powerful since she dedicated it to her father, who had died just days before her audition in front of the judges. She was wonderful and it will be a joy to watch her in Hollywood round.

Not nearly as loveable was Brooke Helvie, Miss South Florida Fair. Simon was about right when he called her “the most annoying person” he’d ever met. She sang “Who’s Loving You” and, sure, sang it well, but she’s still very pageant-y.

Alexandra…didn’t catch her last name thanks to a weather update, sang “My Funny Valentine” and was totally awesome. She’s only 16, but sure didn’t act like it. I really look forward to what she’ll do next.

Amanda Overmeyer is a rock chick who sang both a Janis Joplin tune and “Travelin’ Band.” She might be more interesting if she didn’t oversing and try to sound just like the original artist. Other than that, she’s pretty awesome — she’s into motorcycles and is a nurse.

Last for the night was Josiah Leming. He’s a high school drop-out who’s been living out of his car for about a year. He sang an emo-ish song he wrote, decently enough but in a strange English accent. The judges had him sing Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars” and he sounded about as well as the original artist. He’s through to Hollywood.

According to Fox.com, tomorrow night’s episode is a “Best of the Rest” audition special.

One week and then we’re in Hollywood!
