What’s Going On – Foos, R.E.M., Hobbits

28 Jan

Before we get on to any news this morning, let’s talk Foo Fighters in Memphis.

Did anyone else go? Or were you iced in, like me? I had tickets to the show – pretty good ones, actually, and they were my cousin’s Christmas present – but, thanks to that ice Friday, I had to stay in. It wasn’t really that much ice but just enough to make it dangerous to drive (at least for Mississippians, who, when we see ice, are like, what’s that?). *sigh*

At least there’s a tiny, tiny light at the end of this dark, depressing tunnel: the Foos had to cancel their Nashville show, and they promise to make it up. So maybe a few of us who couldn’t make it to the Memphis show can go to the future Nashville gig? Maybe? I’m holding out hope.

UPDATE: My bad – it was their Arkansas and Oklahoma City dates that were canceled, not the Nashville show. Hmm…it’s more than six hours to their Arkansas date. Perhaps the tunnel is dark after all. 😦

Back to our regularly scheduled business…

  • Another tour we want near here: Modest Mouse and the National will open for R.E.M. in an upcoming tour.
  • “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson is dropping a compilation featuring artists like Three 6 Mafia and “AI” alums Katharine McPhee and Elliott Yamin. Fellow judge Paula Abdul gets the first single off the disc, “Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow.” Has anyone else heard this? Granted, I’ve only heard a 30-second clip, but so far I’m a little creeped out by it.
  • The third season of “Battlestar Galactica” drops on DVD in March.
  • “Quarterlife” will premiere on NBC Feb. 16, and the next day, edited episodes of “Dexter” show up on CBS.
  • In case anybody cares, the New Kids on the Block may reunite.

If you’re going to the upcoming Reba McEntire-Kelly Clarkson gig at the BancorpSouth Arena on Valentine’s Day, you might be interested in this piece, a review of one of their recent shows.

I haven’t heard Paula’s track, but I’ve heard Kat and Elliott’s song. It’s called “Real Love”, and it’s up on Youtube sung by someone else—–very cute song. They’ll sound great on it.

I never thought about it but I’ll bet their voices sound great together.
