Extra: American Idol groups, Buffy, fashion

28 Jan

Top of the late evening to you.

  • If you’re a fan of My Chemical Romance, Timbaland, Rufus Wainwright, the Scissor Sisters or Rihanna, you might want to check out this Web site, Designers Against AIDS. Lots of stars designed clothes that carry a message, and you can see the entire collection here.
  • OK, allow me to geek out for a moment. Apparently, the upcoming issue 12 of the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” season 8 is so crazy good, Dark Horse is telling retailers to order lots more issues. This issue will be written by Drew Goddard, who wrote “Cloverfield,” as well as several eps of “Buffy,” “Angel,” “Lost” and “Alias.” Pretty exciting stuff. For more spoilers, go here.

Finally, a rather interesting tidbit.

So I got to thinking about that Drew Poppelreiter fan club on Facebook – or, the two of them, really. The first club, started by a fan in Illinois, has roughly 1,880 members, while the second group, started by a Tupelo fan, has about 143 members.

So I decided to see what other Season 7 “American Idol”  contestants have — has anyone created a Facebook fan club group for, say, Colton Swon? Apparently not, or at least not that I could find.

Fans of Kristy Lee Cook have set up a “Kristy Lee Cook to Win American Idol 2008!” group, but only 33 folks are in the group so far.

Kady Malloy (who, frankly, I forgot until I just watched her audition clip again) has three groups on Facebook, but there are no more than 30 members in each group.

The only notes I took on Brooke White were that she’d never seen an R-rated movie, so obviously I’ve forgotten her. Apparently I’m alone in that, though, because she has a pretty good sized Facebook group, called “Brook White for American Idol 2008!” and she’s got 635 members. There’s also a group called “Brooke White for Rockstar 987,” rooting her on when she tried out for another talent search. There are just under 100 members for that group.

For better or worse, a couple of Idol rejects have fan clubs, too.

“We’re Brothers Forever” crooner Renaldo Lapuz has three fan clubs on Facebook, one with nearly 1,000 members, another with almost 400 and one with 14 members.

“No Sex Allowed” singer Milo Turk has a fan club with nine members.

OK. So that’s what I’ve found so far. Let me know if y’all know of any other “AI” 2008 Facebook groups. I just think it’s pretty interesting that Drew Poppelreiter has such a huge fanbase already. Bodes very well for him.
