“American Idol,” Jan. 23

23 Jan

“Math is hard,” my Talking Barbie said when I was 10, and I believed her.

But this math isn’t so hard: so 23 contestants from Charleston went to Hollywood…yet in one hour they only showed four (and two of them were in one package).  That’s right, four. They showed more than six who didn’t make it through. That’s right, six. *sigh*

Anyway, enough complaining and onto these three cats who are going to Hollywood.

The first two were siblings, Michelle and Jeffrey Lampkin. The pair sang “I’m Your Angel” and were pretty awesome. Simon thought Jeffrey was better than Michelle, which is about right. Randy said no to Michelle but Simon and Paula said yes, so both of them are on their way. They were an absolute joy to watch just in this round, so I look forward to seeing them in California.

Amy – Amy Catherine – A.C. – “Whatev” Flynn is a 16-year-old dance team leader and a member of something called STARS where she preaches abstinence (and she gave Simon a speech). She sang “Reflections.” It was OK, pretty weak really, but she’s on to Hollywood. Besides her speech, she’s really pretty forgettable.

London Weidberg, who lost her dad three years ago, sang “Good Morning Heartache.” Not the most amazing performance ever but WAY better than Amy’s. I think it’ll be really interesting to see where she goes from Hollywood.

That’s it for this week, Idol cats. Check in here next week when the show goes to Nebraska.
