Thacker turns 10

5 Sep

One of North Mississippi’s treasures turns 10 this year.

Thacker Mountain Radio
, which is broadcast each Thursday at 5:30 p.m from Off-Square Books, is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. The show brilliantly combines author readings and music. Everyone from Elvis Costello, Marty Stuart and the North Mississippi Allstars have performed on the show. Authors such as Roy Blount Jr., Willie Morris and Larry Brown have read on Thacker Mountain.

The first show of the season is this week. Author of Red Rover, Deirdre McNamer, will read, and Homemade Jamz and Kristen Foster will perform.

As always, the show will be hosted by Jim Dees and music will be provided by the house band, the Yalobushwackers, headed up by legendary producer Jim Dickinson.

If you can’t make it out to the show, you can always listen to it live on WOXD 95.5 FM, or at 7 p.m. Saturdays on MPB.

If you’ve never been to a Thacker Mountain show, you’ve got to go – it’s a real treat.
