It’s news to me

10 Jul

A couple of interesting news bits…

  • Alicia Keys is prepping a new album. “As I Am” drops Oct. 23.
  • So, are ANY of Avril Lavigne’s songs originals?
  • Jim Morrison’s quite dead, but an investigation may be launched again to find out what made him so.
  • Barry Manilow is getting ready to drop a new record, and this one’s full of 70s covers. Rosie O’Donnell helps out on a version of “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.”

O’ the day

10 Jul

I’ve been meaning for a while now to have a whatever of the day…music of the day, video of the day, whatever is floating my boat.  For no special reason at all, I’m kicking this off today…with TWO things! Alright!

Like any good Smashing Pumpkins fan, I ran out and bought the band’s new album, “Zeitgeist,” today.  I listened to it about a million times, and you know what stuck out to me the most? In the song “United States,” Billy Corgan says “revolution” the way I think Adam Sandler’s Cajun Man would say it: “RREEVVoluSHAWN!”

If you’ve forgotten dear Sandler’s SNL character Cajun Man, click here to watch a clip.

I’ve been a Beatles fan for more than 10 years (and when you’re just 24, that’s a mighty long time), but I’ve never — that’s right, never — owned “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” on CD.  I have it on vinyl, and I’ve had it for some time.  But never on CD.  So today, as I was snapping up the Pumpkins, I also stopped by and finally bought “Sgt. Pepper” on CD.
So, the whole album is my music of the day, but especially “She’s Leaving Home.”  That song will never stop blowing my mind.

What are you enjoying?
