In your ear

15 Jun

Hey guys — sorry I’ve been away the past few days.

I’ve been working a lot and not feeling up to snuff, so I decided to wait until I was relatively-fully functioning before bringing more posts.

So, what’s everyone listening to these days?

I hope to make this a weekly post in which I’ll let y’all in on what I’ve been listening to.  Maybe it can lead you on to greener pastures, musically.

As you saw in Scene, this week I reviewed Cockfight Club’s new record, “Acockalypse Now.” I’m still spinning that one, especially the title track. Everytime I hear that song, I get excited for what COULD be for the Tupelo music scene.

I finally — I know, finally — purchased the latest Of Montreal album, “Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?” Wow, I’ve really been missing out by not hearing this album until now. Everytime I hear it, I hear something new. It’s so awesome. “Gronlandic Edit,” “A Sentence of Sorts in Kongsvinger,” “Heimdalsgate Like a Promethean Curse”….yeah, I’m in love.

More finallys: I also just bought M.I.A.’s “Arular.” Yeah, that one’s even older than the new Of Montreal. But I always loved the singles, like “Bucky Done Gun,” “Sunshowers” and “Galang.” I’m just now getting the whole album, so, yes, I’ve fallen in love with tunes like “U.R.A.Q.T.” and “10 Dollar.”

I’ve also listened to more than my fair share of the single “Loop Duplicate My Heart” by Suburban Kids with Biblical Names.

Of course, I’m also spinning the new “Instant Karma,” but you’ll just have to read Scene to find out what I think about it. 🙂
